Stock Market Game

Post by gyourkoshaven »

Tehkubix generously created a stock market game for us at http://vse.marketwatch.com/Game/FindGameHighlights.aspx . To join you first have to register an account on the site, then at that URL the game ID is "scienceolympiad" and once you get there the password is "scioly". And voila you've joined. Then you have $100,000 to toy around with for anything on an American exchange. You can make orders anytime, but they won't go through until markets next open up. Thanks tehkubix!

Yeah, you can buy mutual funds and stocks. Orders take 20 minutes to go through. That means, if you make an order at 9:30 on Tuesday, (market is closed tomorrow) you'll see the order show up sometime around 9:50. I've had a few problems with orders not going through in the past. If after an entire day the order doesn't go through, try cancelling it. For some reason, when I cancelled the order, the order went through.

There is short selling, buying to cover, and limit trading. I reccommend that everyone who is playing read this: http://vse.marketwatch.com/Game/Help/Ru ... Rules.html

Why is the trading minimum $2.00?

Personally, I like Investopedia better.

EDIT: Also, it's not letting me join.

EDIT 2: Never mind.

I like this one better. It has the direct links to MarketWatch, which are really nice.

Our school has everyone do this in 7th grade, as part of the curriculum. Our team of 3 finished in the 20's out of 200 something. :D

Two months? That's hardly anything worthwhile.

Well, the Dow dropped over 30% in less than a month, so anything's possible, as long as you're lucky.

I would like to let you all know that you can begin trading (you were actually already alowed too but whatever)...the 3 of us that did (myself, eyeball and JonnyC) all lost money today so those of you who have done nothing are tied for the lead  :?

Yeah, but this is kind of supposed to be strategic. At least that was my impression.

Yeah, but you won't really get an experience of what the market is like over a two-month segment...you're not going to learn anything about long term investment.
