Hi, First post poggers.
Anyways, at our regional at Georgia Southern, we got 2nd bc of our base being a tiny piece of balsa wood connected to the hook. That piece of wood was very small how could I reinforce it I'm thinking triangles under and over the piece. Any thoughts??

Some people use Gorilla Glue at the base (that's what this area of the boomilever is usually called). Generally you want a connection that has a high surface area since the base is under a lot of stress, which is why many boomilevers have the tension members inserted (and glued) into holes in the base. There's a short description of this sort of method
here.

Me and my partner used wood and jet glue. How would that work with the base?

I don't know how strong wood glue is, but a lot of people try to avoid it for this event because it adds excessive weight. Gorilla glue should be sufficient with the right base design.
