Practice Schedule

Post by Waterpigcow »

What is your team's practice schedule? how is it organized and what level do you compete at? for my school we meet twice a week after school for about ninety minutes to work on events and we have gone to our state competition for the past three years.

We don't have practices at our high school. I'd say we're close to making states this year.

We usually do one set of events each week, with some team-building games on some of the weeks before the Rules come out and a ice-cream party after Regions. We also meet as individuals during the week sometimes... This rotation works well usually, unless you're like me and take on 8 events for Regions, and study for one more that you don't really want {and then you're happy when your region makes it conflict with two other events}, but...

Oof...

Our team meets once a week, but I would think some of the better teams would meet more often. We do a lot of work outside of meetings, though.

we usually meet 4 times a week for 75 minutes, but i guess suppose a lot of people, especially non-experienced people, don't really work at home

Practice schedule? What's that? *laughs and then starts to cry*

My Div B team would have build events start early. practices would start at 8:00 am on a saturday, and go until 1:00 PM. There would be bagels in the lobby for breakfast from the local Einstein Bagels
Ok this is epic 8-)
Events 2018: Battery Buggy (3rd at Nats), Rollercoaster (18th at Nats), Ping Pong (1st at states)
Events 2019: Codebusters, Ping Pong Parachute (2nd at Regionals OVERALL), Thermodynamics
Events 2020: Sounds of Music, Designer Genes, Ping Pong Parachute

We have a practice space available every day after school, but most meetings aren't required. A majority of our C team shows up on Tuesdays, while our B team shows up on Thursdays since the space isn't large. People are also trusted to work at home, of course (-: A lot of our work is self managed, which allows team members to have outside commitments (though it can be frustrating when people choose not to work on SciOly.)

My B team would do something similar back in its heyday. We would usually do 8-12, but it proved to be really helpful to our preparedness. It takes a very devoted coach to dedicate that time, but it's definitely a positive influence on performance.
