Speed

Post by Hopelessnewbie »

Sorry, but how do I make my vehicle faster? Right now, it's not very fast at all. My gear ratio is about a 10 tooth gear directly attached to a motor that is driving a 50 tooth gear. I'm using four batteries, and a fairly powerful motor.

Motor RPM? Wheel diameter?

well to be fair, that is a 1to 5 ratio so the wheel are turning at a rate 5 times slower than the motor. Whats the total battery voltage? If its not at 12 volts or whatever the operational voltage of the motor the motor might not be perfoming at its full capacity.

Each battery is a standard AA alkaline one inside of a 1.5 power cell. I'm not entirely sure about the motor RPM, but I took apart a model car and the motor inside seemed to be faster, so that's what I'm using (this is in comparison to the motors in the kit.) The wheels are the red ones that come in the add-on kit, and they are red with a diameter of about 2.5 inches. I only have two CD hubs - should I use them? Would using them as the front or rear wheels make the car faster if the front wheels are the ones turning?

Also, what are just overall tips that I can use to speed up my car?

Thank you all! (*^▽^*)

Well, use more batteries the limit is 12 volts so u ould use 8 batteries. MOre voltage equals faster for most motors. 2.5 inch wheels might be too small cuz think about it, for lets say the 8 meters they time it for it would take 42 rotations, which is a lot. And with lets say a 500 rpm, with the 1 to 5 ratio u have, it would be 100 rpm and take you 25 seconds. with bigger wheels that time it cut down a lot.

So would you say I should switch out my rear wheels with CD's? Would it be more practical to make my front or rear wheels larger if I only have one set?

Madcow, I sent you a PM. Can you check it out? I'm sorry if I'm bothering you, but I've learned a lot from you and I'm really grateful.
