Motorstick Length

Anyone know the benefits and drawbacks of longer motor sticks(Specifically the distance between the propeller hook and the rear hook)?
How long do you mean by "long motor". Right now I'm using the freedom flight kit with an extra 2 inches of motor stick length on an unmodified 24 cm flaring prop. I'm getting great results with it but I'm very sure that a 2.17-gram loop of 0.102 rubber doesn't count as "long".coachchuckaahs wrote:Benefits: With this year's likely long motors, a long motor stick will maintain higher torque later in the flight, and will not be as likely to ball up the knots.
Downside: A longer motor stick, especially with the heavier rubber that may be used with the large prop, may have a tendency to flex, changing the plane's trim. This may be countered with bracing or carbon. MS tends to be a thick cross section, so weight can also become an issue.

Wow, okay. Maybe I should try heavier rubber soon.coachchuckaahs wrote:While we are still testing with half rubber, I have seen people reporting 3g or so of rubber

depends on how much power your plane needs, only increase if you have too little powerOpticsNerd wrote:Wow, okay. Maybe I should try heavier rubber soon.coachchuckaahs wrote:While we are still testing with half rubber, I have seen people reporting 3g or so of rubber
