West coast invites

Post by sophisSyo »

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could recommend to me any West coast invites? Or even Midwest ones? I found rankings of invites but it's from several years back. My school currently has invites for 12/8, possibly 12/15, 1/12, 2/9, and 2/16, and our regionals are 2/2 and states are 3/15.
thanks!

If your team is looking for early invitationals, try UT-Austin or Clements, on October 27th and October 20th, respectively. You could also try Kenston, which is in Ohio on January 19th. Duke is on the same date, but in North Carolina (yes, it's on the East Coast, but at least it isn't the Northeast.) On that note, Brookwood's invitational is on the same date and in Georgia.

It very much depends on what qualities you're looking for in your invitational.

True - Unome can we have an updated "definitive" guide to the tiers/ranks for 2018-2019?

If your looking for a decent midwest invite might I recommend the Crystal Lake Central Invitational? We normally have competitors from 4 states with an aggressive competition from teams such as Stevenson(IL), New Trier, and others. If you are interested I can check to see when/if we have available spots for your team.

I feel like a lot of the Midwestern invitationals may be full as of now, I know University of Michigan definitely is, I'm not sure about most of the others but they tend to fill up kinda quickly.

That's a fair point. The list is very hypothetical for the future given that my school is in the NE.
However what we are looking for is west coast invites that have 1. competitive teams (at least some teams that go to nationals) 2. at least UPenn/Cornell quality tests. I know Golden Gate is one of the top West coast invites? I'm not really sure though because I've been to only East coast invites and I know Wright State is one of the main Midwest ones. But definitely nothing before December is going to work because of when we do testing and stuff (a lot of the Southern ones are earlier in the year so they're not really an option).

It isn't Wright State Invitational anymore, it's now Centerville Invitational. It's essentially the same competition, just in a different venue. Other than that tho, I think a lot of the kinds of invitationals you may be looking for are full at this point, including Golden Gate, UPenn, and Cornell, to name the ones you mentioned. I checked Centerville's website, and it's a little ambiguous as to whether they are full or not, but they do attract many Midwestern teams so they very well could be full. Not entirely positive on that though, if you were interested in going there, you could fill out the form and see what you get.

Tournaments that I would say have the quality that you're looking for, roughly in descending order:
  • MIT
  • Golden Gate
  • Princeton
  • UT-Austin
  • Solon
  • UPenn
  • Harvard
  • Cornell
  • Centerville
(sorry in advance if I forgot someone)
