Re: Nationals
Tower heights won with 2:29. We came in second with, yes, 2:29. Both were very nice flights. I think there was only 1 or 2 other flights better than 2 minutes.

Re: Nationals
We got 4th with a raw time of 1:58?. It could have been much better, but basically what happened was that the event supervisor's organization brought us down a little. I'm not going to explain the whole thing, but I had to rush everything so that I wouldn't be late for optics(and I still was). We were planning to do 1 or 2 test flights, but I completely skipped that to save time. Also, I winded the plane so fast(also to save time) that it was winded very poorly. Our first flight was with low torque, which got us 1:58. Then I did the second flight with max torque, which hit the ceiling twice. The first hit was fine, but the second brought it down like 6 meters. That one only got like 1:40 because of that, otherwise, if I had gotten lucky with the ceiling hits it would have been 2:20+.

During practice in a 22' gym I could get 2:00... I got 1;48 (10th) at nats though. Literally 10 seconds away from a medal

1st flight was with low torque, about 3 meters away from ceiling. 2nd flight was with a lot of torque, hit and the wing broke off.

Re: Nationals
Judging by the times and flights, I think the altitude took a bit of adjustment. I think the prop ran off the winds faster, resulting in a LOT of flights very much below the obstructions. Getting over 2 minutes required either at or above the lights. Those that went above did so at their own risk. I do not recall any making more than a lap or two above the lights before hitting and coming down. Tower Heights second flight got up there, and after about a lap and a half it hit and ducked down. However, to her credit, the static stability was excellent, and the plane leveled off about a meter below the lights and finished an excellent flight. Many others that ventured into the lights lost 3-4m of altitude, which kills the time.
We, fortunately, had the advantage of living at altitude, so our records were worth something at Nats. Most years, we are going down off the mountain, and we need to adjust for the altitude change.
We'll see y'all next year in ELG and WS (assuming those are the events that go forward). I have enjoyed conversing with folks online and in PM this year.
Thanks for the congrats, anomaly!

As one of the event supervisors, I’m sorry you feel like you were rushed. Yes, the check in was a bottleneck. Teams were checked in first come- first served. The records indicate you launched your first flight under 3 minutes to receive the bonus. We insured all teams received the same 8 minute flight period. Did you choose to not use it all?
Did you start your flights after the time slot had ended? If I had a team the they and haven’t checked in before the end of the period due to event delays, I would have likely told the event supervisor I have another event and I would submit an arbitration requesting to fly at the end of the day?
Regardless, I would like to know more details so countermeasures can be taken next year.
Thanks
