2009 National Prediction Contest is Open

Post by Dark Sabre »

The Nationals website posted the list of team names yesterday, so today the Prediction Contest (coded by tehkubix :D) will be open for voting.

As you will probably figure out when you view the contest page, the idea is to make the most accurate prediction as who will get the top 5 places at nationals in the two divisions.

Prediction Contest

All of the votes will be scored after the official results for all teams are posted.

Post questions and issues in Feedback.

Results!

There were 163 votes. Some people voted for only one division, others voted for both.
I used to slightly different formulas to compute the results, so I'm presenting both:

The sum of the differences between your predictions and the actual placing:

The sum of ( the differences between times reverse ranking ). Like Sum(5*your 1st place delta + 4*your 2nd place delta+...+1*your5th place delta). This weights the scoring toward accurate predictions for the higher places.

It was suggested to do a ranking for accuracy in predicting first place winners between the two divisions. Unfortunately, this resulted in a 22-way tie.

Division B and Division C scores added using either formula:

Conveniently, using either formula:
divinebooger won the B division predictions
eak227 won the C division predictions

divinebooger won the combination of B and C division predictions.

Contest results from 2005
Contest results from 2006

As you can see, eak is a regular in the high placings...on the other hand, I tied him in Div B predictions by just picking the first 5 teams on the list :?
