What do you do when a tower breaks and there is no time to rebuild before competition? How can it be patched together in the best way?
I usually just reglue over the old glue, but I don't think that's working very well. Sometimes we have backup towers, but we usually don't for invitationals.

Just a thought... but I'd suggest that the key here is to make every possible effort to keep this from happening. This would include keeping it in a very secure box (cardboard does not count), and not getting it out prior to competition to "shave a few tenths off with sandpaper). Other than that, we carry a repair kit, on the off chance that a brace pops off. The kit includes medium viscosity cyanoacrylate glue, a few pieces of 1/32 x 1/16 material long enough to replace the longest piece in needed, a few pieces of 1/8" x 1/32" about an inch long to act as gussets over a potential column break, a bottle of super, glue cleaner to loosen the joints, a bottle of accelerator, and oh ya, a bottle of Excedrin!

I have never had a tower break that badly before a competition, but i always bring a used gift wrap tube with enough balsa to create another tower if needed.
