Disease Detectives

Post by Aia »

Does anyone have any idea what the changes will be like for Disease Detectives? I know the topic is changing from Environmental Quality to Population Growth, but does anyone have any guesses as to what may change from that? I'm assuming the same epidemiology processes will apply, but what types of diseases will show up?

I think the focus will change from disease cases to population growth formulas, like neonatal mortality rate, death-to-case ratios, etc. As far as diseases go, think of diseases that usually come with increasing population growth, including influenza and other highly communicable diseases. I seriously doubt the primary focus will change from diseases to pure epidemiological formulas, but it's entirely possible.

Unless they've changed the rules, nothing. Just a writing utensil, non-programmable calculator, and your brain.

By the way, I'm working on the Disease Detectives wiki. Go check it out!

The Rulebooks are out!

Major changes to Disease Detectives (B and C):
- focus of the event is now the effects of population growth on public health outcomes
- definition of 'health' has been broadened
- study design biases (more for Div C)
- greater focus on communication

What do you think about the new event changes?

In competition, Disease Detectives focuses almost entirely upon testing. However, I still think it's very 'hands-on,' but in a different sense of the term.

on the rule sheet, there are two separate topics, one is infectious agents, and one is disease causing agents. what is the difference? is one the actual vectors, and one the possible things that can cause it, like unsanitary water.
