Hi guys! :O So our team placed in 9 events out of 19 events and got 10th place at regionals. There are some really smart people on our team (one guy got 3 golds and 1 silver alone) and I'm bummed out we didn't get to states... This was my first year in division C, I dumped all of my time into anatomy, and I only got 3rd. I was wondering if you guys have any tips, or any links to awesome threads I can use? How do you guys usually study?

This is always a difficult task; winning individual awards is one thing, but being able to motivate an entire team is completely different. You have to really get everyone to work together as a team.

In terms of studying, there are many different ways to go about it. Personally, taking notes and using practice tests worked for me, but there are other strategies. I recommend looking through the threads for each individual event to see what study strategies work for those events.

If you want to improve in anatomy, I would really suggest buying a textbook if you haven't already. You're in high school, maybe a teacher has an a+p textbook lying around that they would let you borrow?

Well, you have a "really smart guy" right? Ask him how he studies because he probably really knows how to. Also, many events are not traditional school topics such as materials science, ecology, and others, but a strong background in those science areas lets you perform well. Hold team study sessions, ask the forum, or even ask other teams to get better! Many teams at the top are really nice and are willing to help out younger teams or less experienced teams. Especially in builds, the forums are a great way to bring up your placement. Finally, the best way to motivate your team or get experience is to attend invitationals. My team attended many of them and thus many people got experience on competition day problems, facing tests that count, and dealing with the pressure. I hope you make it to states next year!
