Hypothetically if there was to be an Invitational at the University of Florida for Division C run by past national science Olympiad competitiors/medalists, how many teams could it attract from other states? How many of you think your team would consider attending?

Depends on the expected quality and the reputation of those involved.

I think as long as it has a good website that seems reputable, and provides enough information to be trustworthy, it could definitely work well. It would probably attract teams mainly from the Southeast, at least at first until it gains more of a reputation, but I definitely think there is a market for a university-run invitational in Florida, which I think currently only has a couple invitationals.

Timing is huge. The weekend you pick and the heads up you give teams to plan is very important. Also were you planning on writing and running the events or were teams responsible for that?

Agreed. If you're banking on Southeast teams, definitely look at the regular tournament dates and such (note it's very unlikely you'll get anyone other than Georgia teams and possibly Auburn). Even them, we don't want to travel 6 hours to experience a tournament in the quality range of UGA.

Teams would only be responsible for competing. Everything would be run/written by past SO competitors, many being national medalists. Of course this is all hypothetical for now

You make a good point. The quality would be at or exceed similar Ivy-league tournaments that have been popping up across the nation recently (Yale, Upenn, Princeton, etc). Maybe not quite at the level of MIT though
