Virginia 2017
So I noticed TJHSST destroyed their regional (1st, 2nd, and 4th versus defending state champion at 3rd, 7th, and 8th). Thoughts on the possibility of them qualifying for nationals?

TJ is nuts. I'd guess that SciOly isn't that big at their school compared to invdividual olympiads or academic research, but I think if they got really serious about it I wouldn't put it past them to not only make nats but have some ridiculous showing and outperform all past Virginia teams at nats (including themselves, I guess).Unome wrote:So I noticed TJHSST destroyed their regional (1st, 2nd, and 4th versus defending state champion at 3rd, 7th, and 8th). I was at this regional. The state director gave a speech about a recent death (less than two weeks prior if I remember correctly) at that team's school. The kid was on their team and had gone to nationals 3 times.Unome wrote:So I noticed TJHSST destroyed their regional (1st, 2nd, and 4th versus defending state champion at 3rd, 7th, and 8th). That is, the defending champion's team. Although many of my teammates did know him.science_nerd_foreves wrote:I was at this regional. At any rate, I do think we have a *chance*. I'm not entirely sure how well we'll do if only because there was A LOT of roster reshuffling (I ended up doing trials).

What do you guys think of fairfax taking first this year? Did anybody even see it coming? How do you think it happened?

That's definitely an upset, but it hasn't been posted on here until now. Do you have the scoresheet? Can you post top 3-5 teams and scores?markuswso17 wrote:What do you guys think of fairfax taking first this year? Did anybody even see it coming? How do you think it happened?
