American Hornbeam. Uses: Tool Handles, gear pegs, making chess pieces, carving boards, coach wheels.

correct! But how do you tell the different between hornbeam and hophornbeam?

I always thought that american hornbeam is more oval shaped, while eastern hophornbeam is more pointy.
