Re: Wright Stuff B
What's the normal event rotation for WS? Is it in B for 2010, then in C for '11 and '12?

Re: Wright Stuff B
Wright Stuff is B div. only for 2010 then goes into hiatus for two years. It will be gone from both B and C divisions for two years after the 2010 season.

the small one doesn't have a name it's just called regular and the big one is called broad blade "flare style"
thnx for the info guys!!!carneyf1d wrote:Personally, I'd suggest a broad blade ikara. If you modify it yourself a little bit, you can make a pretty efficient propeller. Don't like the regular style Ikara though. The regular style uses a blade where the majority of the plastic is behind the spar, which is pretty dumb. Blades with plastic mainly in front of the spar flex at high torque, slowing climb = more time before you hit the ceiling.
is there anyway to to make the optimum rubber band??
thnx in advance

I'd love if that was the case right now, but it looks like it won't be that for a few years. If I am completely confused on this, I hope someone corrects meGitItWright wrote:<SNIP>The following is hypothetical but very realistic proposal for the future of flying in Science Olympiad.<SNIP>

Re: Wright Stuff B
Get Tan Super Sport Rubber in the size you need. 3/32" is usually about the right size. Weigh out exactly 2.0 grams on a balance, and tie it using a double-overhand knot at the end (there's a few different knot styles I've seen, my preference is to hold the two ends of the rubber together as if they were one, and tie a knot).49ers wrote:thnx for the info guys!!!smartkid222 wrote:the ikara are the best and is what most people use. there are two types though regular and wide blade.

Then lubricate the motor with Armor All or a similar substance. When you wind it, start by stretching it to about three times its relaxed length. Put about half the winds in, then slowly walk toward the other end as you put the rest of the winds in.

Re: Wright Stuff B
thanks andrewwski, yeah he pretty much did a good job explaining there, just note that the rubber weight can change from year to year (it was 1.5g last year)
blue cobra i dont' understand your question. they want to put WS, BLG, and helicopter on a rotation.

Re: Wright Stuff B
They do? As in the National Event Coordinators? Good. I wasn't sure if the trio was just something people were hoping for or if the top sci oly people were actually going to do that. Thanks!

Re: Wright Stuff B
Sometimes your local hobby shop carries good contest rubber like Tan Super Sport.
Otherwise you have to buy on the internet. Several distributers, but the ultimate source of supply is FAI Model Supply, www.faimodelsupply.com
Only constraint in ordering from FAi is they only have limited width choices. 1/16 is too small, 1/8 too fat unless your plane is really over weight. 3/32 is a good all round compromise, that gives good times under current rules, but is still a little fat for best times. I see you can order 0.083 for SO which is very near optimum for last years rules. Minimum qty of 1/4 lb may seem like a lot (75 1.5 gm motors) but if you practice lots, you'll appreciate not having to worry about broken motors and running out.
Other sources used to offer a wider range of widths, typically every dimension from 0.030 up to 1/8 by 0.005 increments that would allow you to tune exactly, but I'm not finding them now. That was always an expensive way to go because you paid a lot for 18 ft of that special width. But still cheaper than buying your own micrometer stripper, unless you really get into the hobby.
