Re: New York 2011
I didn't mean to imply that it can't be unpredictable - I'm sure it sometimes is. It's just that this time, the teams which did best overall also did best in this event, which usually means the event was fair (i.e., predictable). Powder is usually a good one in this regard, so I was surprised to see these results.gneissisnice wrote:I heard that the event was really really easy. Only the three basic reagents, and questions like "What color is the powder?" and other basic stuff. No difficult inferences on the questions or anything. I went over some stuff with my team the night before, and they said that nothing I told them was on it (like ions), it was just really basic. I wish we could end up seeing the actual event.Flavorflav wrote: Look at the score sheet, though - the top six teams all came in top ten in Compute. That is not an unpredictable event. Powder, on the other hand, seems like it was a disaster for most of the top teams. Anybody know what happened there?
And I never did Compute, so maybe you're right that it's not unpredictable, I'm just going with what I heard.

Re: New York 2011
I dunno, I've done Powders for 3 years, and my results varied from 1st to 51st. It's a very very unpredictable event; it can either be too easy (only the 3 main reagents, simple questions without any tough inferences) or unreasonably hard (when I got 51st, we had the 3 main reagents plus phenolphthalein, Bromothymol Blue, Benedict's Solution, and something else. We only had time to test the first 3 and half of phenolphthalein, and every question on the test was on the last 3).Flavorflav wrote:I didn't mean to imply that it can't be unpredictable - I'm sure it sometimes is. Oh, now I know why you just asked me about that on Facebook. I thought you were planning on coming over on Sunday.FueL wrote:I'm from Murphy. And Gelinas doesn't meet on Sundays.
No, Sundays are the one day of the week that Gelinas never meets. Though according to one of our math teachers, we meet eight days a week. xD
By every day I meant weekdays, and I was referring to teams in general, not the Gelinas team.
