Does anyone know a good Microbe textbook? I've been mainly using wikipedia but I don't really think that'll cut it at States.

I have been looking at "Clinical Microbiology made ridiculously simple" its really good and has some amusing illustrations. Also "Medical Microbiology & Immunology" is good its used for Boards

Any introductory microbiology text should suffice for the vast majority of testable material; you just might be short a disease here or interesting anecdote there. Beware anything geared towards medicine, as this event is much broader in scope than that! Anyway, I have a couple of these on my shelf. My favorite among them is Tortora, which is, incidentally, the one that appears most popular on Amazon. It's total information overload, though, if you're new to biology or in B division.

The jury's out on review books. I just had a stack come in the other day and, obviously, haven't had the time to read them yet...

I'm in C division. I've started to use Tortura and have found it rather helpful. I've been losing many point on disease and was wondering if anyone has a good textbook for diseases. Further up I saw Clinical Microbiology made simple and Medical Microbiology & Immunology being recommended, does anyone have any other textbooks they would recommend for diseases?

Further up I saw Clinical Microbiology made simple and Medical Microbiology & Immunology being recommended, does anyone have any other textbooks they would recommend for diseases?

For diseases, I just Googled every disease on the list and typed up information on each of them onto my notesheet; uit's been working pretty well for me so far (got first at a tournament for the first time after doing this).

That's what I did too. Wikipedia is a CF of information, but it becomes easy to spot the important info after the first few diseases.

I also did this. The CDC website and Wikipedia both tend to have good disease info.

I did the same, but find that it is often necessary to memorize distinguishing characteristics of different diseases, especially considering the limiting size of the notesheet
