Yeah. Just how there are many types of parallelograms (like rectangles). Those can be the classes, if rectangles are the order. Then quadrilaterals can be the phylum, and polygons can be the kingdom! Of course, there are many types of polygons. And that's a whole bunch of different phyla, classes, orders, family, genera, and species.

The Audubon guide is really confusing to use since pictures and info are separate. I can see why people would use it since it's the official insect guide for scioly, but I think other guides are a lot easier to use, like the National Wildlife Federation guide. If you do want to use Audubon though it would probably make sense to just tab the pictures section for easier identification in competition.

I recommend just making tabs that work for you and practicing, practicing, practicing. Eventually, you'll know where the bugs are without even needing to check the tabs, if you do it enough.

I've been working on a wiki page for tabbing since last season, but never got around to finishing it... I'll probably do it over Thanksgiving or holiday break, which will be before most regionals (or so I assume). Of course, I'm more comfortable in Forestry and with the way those books were organized. I'll have to do some experimentation before I can offer any ideas, since I don't want to confuse or give bad advice.

Something I noticed was that the Audubon guide doesn't have pictures for EVERY order/family, so you need to be careful. In addition, it doesn't show many variations that can occur. That's why memorization and recognition is extremely important if you choose to use it. I'm planning to do what I did last year- Audubon until I'm confident enough with my knowledge of trivia to use another book.

I'm finding this event much harder than Forestry. I felt like I just absorbed information and names and ID last year, but I'm struggling this time around. Of course, this is the first year of the event and next year would be much easier if I continue.

haha. I totally agree, entomology is (for me) much more difficult than forestry :/. I wish forestry would stay longer

Order, Family And common names for both Div B and Div C. Always check current rules!

Regarding some of the facts in Audubon: I know what some of the #of families/ species are completely outdated in the Field Guide. On a test we should chose the Audubon statistic right?
