is a flute considered a woodwind (it having no reed) sry violin player all i see everyday are more lioins and cellos

flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, saxophone, piccolo
brass:
trumpet, french horn, trombone, baritone, tuba
percussion:
everything else

because it doesn't play the same way as a brass instrument, there isn't the mouthpiece that most brass have, its like a saxophone is made of metal, but still called a woodwind

but flutes are played differently than other instruments, u blow across an opening at one end, much like making sound with a soda bottle

The descendant of the modern flute (the cylindrical Boehm flute) originated in China around 900 BCE and was originally made of wood, hence being grouped into the woodwinds.

Being a flute and piccolo player- you can still get wood flutes, and more commonly wood piccolos. Metal has it's own properties that change the quality of the sound, as well as other factors that just make it more convenient for the instrument to be made out of.

they make them, the only woodwind that is never made out of wood is saxophone
