I recommend using a material like drafting mylar. Sturdy enough to do the job. Be creative; try different materials and see what works best for you.

thanks for the pics, thought you had somehow gotten a picture of our rocket from last year in one of them. Amazing how similar a design can be when the goal is the same.

Last year our best rockets could do 20 seconds but because of the size of the competition field we lost both of them in trees. I have an idea about the rocket this year but was trying to control the direction of the drift. Can anyone think of a way to make the rocket circle? I'm thinking fins that are straight on acceleration but bend in a direction on drift.

Are there any materials that you can recommend for a good bottle rocket? ( besides a bottle :) )

Plus, what is the highest time you have ever gotten?

Thanks!!

fishman100,
Can you recommend the thickness of the drafting mylar? I saw different thicknesses online, but I don't know which one to buy.
Thanks

Like I said before, I can't really give an accurate recommendation for bottle rockets, since the design (height, nose cone, etc.) of your rocket is most likely different than mine, especially now that 2-liter bottles are prohibited.

I'm going to assume that you're talking about drafting mylar here, since your post didn't explain what you were referring to. If you would like to recommend a material of your own then you can.

I understand. Thanks anyway. I didn't realize that I wasn't suppossed to ask that.

No, that was a fair question, so don't feel bad about asking!

In general, yes. However there appear to be certain things about it that aren't allowed (such as using a 2L instead of a 1L bottle, and the fins seem to be glued on).
