No you are not.

I noticed a fossils in the marble floor of the Indiana State Building. Pointed it out to someone, named the genus, fought about it really being a fossil and not a scratch and WON when the tour guide explained that parts of the floor were cheaper due to the imperfections caused by fossils, then named the right genus. I had told two people before the tour guide said that: they both had their mouths opened. :D It was great.

Hehe, I have a similar story.

My neighbor is the county legislator, and she had a party where she invited the councilman. We went down for a few minutes and my neighbor mentioned that I liked fossils. The councilman said that he was a Paleontology major in college, so he knows a lot about them too. My mom suggested that I show him some fossils that my half-sister brought back from upstate NY, so I went and got them. He said "Oh yes, this is clearly a belemnite" and I said "...no, it's a crinoid stem". He was surprised at first, but insisted that it was a belemnite. I said "No, look at it. It's not smooth and it's not bullet shaped, it's clearly not a belemnite. It's a crinoid column". He got annoyed and walked away.

So I managed to annoy a councilman by correcting him on a fossil. That was fun.

AWESOME! Extreme props to you. And you're right, it was not a belemnite. :D

I have done several things like that.
When I was five, I started lecturing a curator at the Museum of Natural History in New York about the fact that they had only found the forearms of Therizinosaurus and the fact that yes, I knew that it was probably an insectivore or herbivore.
I also corrected a curator about a display at a local sciencecenter about Mars having two moons, Deimos and Phobos, not zero, as the display stated. I was about five for this, too.
And kudos to gneissisnice about correcting him. That is the story of my life.

I started lecturing a family at the AMNH about how a jaguar was not a cheetah when I was four. My parents had to whisk me away.

Wow, just wow. Sorry no nerdy little kid stories here. I wasn't smart until after fourth grade.

Whenever i hear anything remotely relevant to science my brain goes off in a big chain of connection that arrive me at a totally different subject than I started with, what makes it nerdy is the fact I sometimes do it out loud. Needless to say I get made fun of a lot. D:

Omfg I learned that in elementary school (though I am in the gifted class :))
yhaaa, what grade ru in????/ my whole class learnrd pythagores in 6th grade and i was doing trig at that point w/y "gifted class...
I'm in 6th grade. My school is a little behind on teaching math but the students do really well on the New York State Standardized Testing. The school officially teaches the Pythagorean Theorem in 7th grade (even though in 7th grade, they teach the 8th grade NY state curriculum). I knew about the PT in 4th grade, anyway. I'm surprised that I'm the only one in my class who knows about this thing. (There's no gifted class in grade 6. I'm going to an advanced class next year.)
