Rustin looked very strong today. Wonderful performance by the team in blue. Great performance by the Harriton underclassmen as well. And the seniors looked snazzy in their suits as always.

On the flip side, Lower Merion took a tumble. Definitely a drop from Islip where it seems they had a lucky competition. It seems builds are definitely whats dragging them down. Looks like Rustin and Stoga will start to pull far away from them once they get the ball rolling.

Interesting results. LM seems to have done unstacked teams (and since I know some of the people on each of the teams my personal observations would seem to also indicate that) but together the score improves quite a bit. Builds seem to be killing them- but then again, knowing them, it's probably the builds from last year Considering they lost their major build person it's not that surprising, but it's also typical of LM to improve their builds quite a bit right before Regionals so it's hard to tell.

Harriton's freshman did well in events generally, and the ones they didn't do so well with I think they have upperclassmen that are good at so they look like they'll be good additions to their team.

WWP North kills everyone, not unexpected, everyone's glad they're not PA

Bayard Rustin does well as expected. I was the ES for Astro and can confirm that they won that event by quite a large margin (25% higher score than second place, iirc) which is unsurprising. No event under 12 and only 3 under 10 is a strong showing.

Overall, all the teams look pretty decent, but I think they all should recognize the need to really start putting in the grind- PA just keeps getting more competitive, and no team can afford to feel comfortable, even Harriton.

Interesting performance by LM, they definitely rose and fell in a few events since Islip(the first top ten WIDI performance at any comp since 2015 ). They'll be at Penn and Princeton with Rustin so there'll be more opportunities so judge the two teams. Also I'd like to point out they continued the streak of medalling in Bio ID events*(started by yours truly), no pressure at the future comps .

Since everyone's gonna analyze the top teams ad nauseum, I'm gonna look at everyone else!

First of all, looks like the weather caused some no-shows. North Pocono, Northwestern Lehigh, Manheim Central, and Allentown Central Catholic are all state-level teams that no-showed. Luckily, all of them are very likely to have other invites at which they can be analyzed.

Outside of that, Cumberland Valley is definitely much improved. They're probably a contender for the Central crown, and if all goes well, they have an outside chance of sneaking close to the back end of the top 10. I'd project them for about the 15-20 range if we're handicapping the race at this point. NWL and NP would have been great comparative points, but maybe we'll see them later.

Central York went very unstacked; their best score sum is 389, which puts them a little closer to expected range. It still puts them behind Cumberland Valley, but keeps them within striking distance. I expect the battle between those two, Hershey, State College, and possibly Manheim Central and Elizabethtown to be very interesting. Central is definitely a region to watch.

Other than that, nothing too groundbreaking. Perkiomen Valley is strong as expected, though we won't be able to compare them to NWL yet. North Penn is decent but does not look significantly improved from last year; they could be at risk of missing states qualification if Garnet Valley or Strath Haven leapfrog them. Haverford and West Chester East look like they still have some work to do to qualify (barring possible absences from their teams yesterday).

Overall, a pretty informational set of results. At North Pocono we'll learn a lot more about the hierarchy in NEPA, and MC Barons might give more clarity in Central. Tiger will tell us a bit more about CEPA, but the absences of Perkiomen Valley and Parkland will still offer some uncertainty. And, of course, Penn, Princeton, and the other out-of-state invites.

So, guys, does anyone remember the Geek Speak "event" (it wasn't a real event, just for funsies) that ran a couple of years ago? Basically, it was just a fun little event about the LOTR movies (i.e., the sort of nerdy things that the sort of people who do Science Olympiad would be interested in. ). It was super duper fun. There were bonus points if you wore costumes and stuff, I remember I loved it. I also remember that the next year, I asked about the event, and I was told that there weren't any volunteers willing to run it, so they had to cancel it.
I'm an assistant coach this year, and my schedule will allow me to go to the states competition with my team, so I could potentially see about running it. I was wondering if people would still be interested in an event like that. I am a busy college student, so I can't make any promises until I talk to someone in charge to figure out how much work it would entail, but I just want to know if there would be enough interest from the teams for this to be worth pursuing. I don't even know if the PA state higher-ups would want to do this again, but I figure if I can show that there's enough interest, I could approach them. Thoughts?
