I think it was Division C because Eastview Highschool from MN was able to attend because of a team from another state declining a bid, although it could have happened in both divisionsMagikarpmaster629 wrote:IIRC Washington D.C. was going to send a division B team (*cough* Unome would know this *cough*) in 2011 I think, but they declined so a team from another state went instead.EastStroudsburg13 wrote:It happens occasionally. I know Franklin MS from Oregon has done it before, as has Union HS from Oklahoma and Medomak MS in Maine last year. It generally happens when there's a lack of available funding, especially when the team in question is not very experienced or likely to do well, and it wouldn't be their first time attending nationals.

Re: State Tournament Results
Bringing this up again, we've already got 4 more since when I last posted about this (mainly from states that results just came in. Also counting Waynefleet from Maine even though they declined their bid.)Unome wrote:Definitely something I'll do over the summer. Perhaps I'll measure both teams not there the last two years and teams not there last year but there the previous year. Any other possibilities that might be useful?EastStroudsburg13 wrote:It's one team more than the previous maximum. Of course, more analysis would help add context to if there have been any trends.
Of the states left for Div C, I'd estimate getting 3-4 more new teams (hopefully my prediction is somewhat accurate). I notice middling to high chances in Michigan, Oregon, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Washington, North Carolina, and Texas.
Here's my list, in case I missed something:
Helena HS, MT
Albuquerque Academy, NM
WWPS, NJ
Fayetteville-Manlius, NY
Munster, IN
University HS, AZ
Mount Vernon, IA
White Station, TN
Fairfax, VA
Kelly Walsh, WY
Cathedral, MS
Hopkins, CT
Mentor, OH
Waynefleet, ME (counting this because even though they're not going, I'm concerned with qualifying, not attending)
Medford, WI
Treasure Valley, ID
St. Martin's, LA
Westview, OR
Camas, WA
For a total of 19 teams. Between PA, NC, MI, and the other states left, I think there's definitely room for (although not necessarily likely) 3 teams that did not qualify last year; that would bring this year to a 10-year record in new teams. Considering it's still only about 1/3 of teams, that's quite the incumbency advantage.

Texas Division C
Congratulations to everyone who competed! State is always difficult and I think both LASA and Clements understand the anguish of not qualifying for nationals.
Scores
1 - LASA (67)
2 - Clements (69)
3 - Seven Lakes (104)
4 - Tompkins (142)

I guess you'd better add another team to that listUber wrote:Texas Division C

The North Carolina School of Science and Math won the NC state tournament this year, but did not qualify for nats last year.
