I just did ornithology for the first time this year. Does anybody know if they change the bird lists significantly from year to year?

I believe this was addressed earlier in the thread, but no. I believe it was was Paradox21 who posted a list from three years ago, and it was very similar. Similar, but somewhat different at the same time.

I think that most of the list will stay somewhat the same. They probably have a 'core' list that is used every time, with like more well-known birds, and then change some of the lesser known birds around each time. I mean, they'll probably keep birds like the red-tailed hawk or american robin that are more well known, because it would be easier for students and test-writers to find information on them. Plus, ones that are more commonly found in the U.S., like ones you could easily see out your window, kind of connects it to real life for us. So I think the kind of 'core' will stay and others will be added or removed.

Yeah, the bird list typically includes really common or important birds of North America, so that will not change too much.

That's their way of relating this to real life, I suppose. If it were birds we'll never see, we wouldn't be able to take it to heart.

i still didnt catch half of those picasso portraits in the Ohio state tournament. was anyone else there? or am i the only buckeye in this thread?

i completely agree! i got to regionals and my partner and I had not really studied, but i go birding with my dad. the only ones i was sure about were ones i've seen... like scarlet tanager and belted kingfisher. the rest we guessed... but still managed second.

I've gotten so into birds as a result of this event! It's relevant, and methodical. They outline what you need to know in the rules.... good. Very good.
