Probably could have gotten a few more seconds if it had gone down untouched by obstacles.
Mentor's second flight was 2:33 but (fortunately for many teams) the flight was not counted. I heard that the 2:33 flight didnt count because the rotating disk on the top of the heli fell out.
I've seen this happen to Mentor once before at Solon and am surprised they didn't change this design flaw.
The "second flight" that was 2:33 was not from the team that was competing. It was from a member that was helping run the event and he asked to fly his helicopter with his partner from states 5 years ago.

Do you know if this helicopter was within this year's parameters and rules, or was it just a helicopter that they had made long a go for a previous competition year?

What times do you think we'll see in the top placements at nationals?

The very top is probably going to be one team with an amazing score. I'd expect 10th place to be around 2:00 to 2:15 though.

Yes the helicopter was well within the year's parameters and rules.

I hear from the Event Supervisor high scores were ~2:18 for Helicopters and ~2:30 for Wright Stuff at the state tournament in Washington. Ceiling height ~31-33 feet.

Heli: With bonuses?

One team attempted the single-bladed bonus with non-competitive results.

For NC, top time was around 1:50.1. 2nd place was around 1:28 with a single rotor bonus. We did okay, but could definitely have done much, better.

Top times from Michigan States yesterday:

2:38 International Academy Central
2:34 Northville HS
2:13 Haslett HS
1:57 Holt HS

21 ft 4" flat ceiling tile gym with air handlers off, all doors restricted except one and excellent crowd control and top quality event supervision (thank you to Michigan State University).
