Re: Next Years Events
i dont really know that much about fossils but i'll probably do it since it's similar to rocks and minerals which i did pretty well in at states. i'm not as obsessed with rocks as i am with reach for the stars tho

I'm just going to remind you guys who are rock fanatics and are complaining about it being replaced that there are just as many people who are glad that there is now Fossils because they like Fossils.

Re: Next Years Events
i'm going to be really disappointed when amphibians and reptiles leaves after this year. thats my second favorite event!! and i own 9 reptiles [might be getting another one]. Everyone at school calls me salamanderz, sally, or sal.. half the kids dont even know my REAL name. In my room i have 118 things related to reptiles and amphibians [yes i counted] amphibians/reptiles was also the event that our rivals in scioly do very poorly in [9th at state and 56th at nats] their 56th place finish in nats costed them their usual top 10 finish at nats. so anyway i'll be really disappointed but i'll have to deal with it

Re: Next Years Events
At least most fossils were alive (or contained/belonged to something that was alive) at some point in time...oh joy wrote:but fossils r old...and dead... minerals r prettyful and shiny...
Rotating events/topics is pretty necessary since it would suck to be a newbie to science olympiad in high school and be competing against a senior who had practiced an event for 6 years. Plus the whole idea of science olympiad is to introduce students to different fields of science and add interest in them, and many more fields of science are introduced with rotating events as opposed to keeping the same events every year.
And replacing people in building events and studying events are really just as hard (probably slightly harder w/ building events). This year we lost mostly studiers so it's going to take a lot of work for us to get good in those events. But a lot of builders are experienced and have become good through a ton of work. Someone can jump right into a study event without much experience, jumping into a building event is slightly harder to do when you aren't very experienced (trust me, I know).
