The physical part is bad, (And somewhat pointless, along with the randomness factor) but you do actually have to know some science concepts, facts and history to get a good score.

What kind of questions have people gotten in competition? Because as a national trial last year, the questions were so elementary it was funny ("Point to the kidneys on this model of the human body.").

I guess I would like this event more if at least 80% of the score came from the science knowledge. Does anyone know the exact rubric?

Wow, I'm doing pentathlon instead of elevated bridge. My coach wants me to do this because i'm the most athletic kid on the team. I just have to build a bridge and have somebody else test it.

I wish that they would put one of those out for every event. The only event that I got a rubric for was Compute This. I would hope that at least 65% of the points came from the questions.

Scoring for Pentathlon is based strictly on the amount of time a team takes to complete the course. This includes the time it takes to answer the questions. See Para. 2.a & 3.a.
Information expressed here is solely the opinion of the author. Any similarity to that of the management or any official instrument is purely coincidental! Doing Science Olympiad since 1987!

Wait, scoring is based only on time?

I guess that almost sort of makes sense, since you have to get the question right to go on, right?

Yes, if you don't get the question right, judges can add minutes to your overall time, or keep you until you get it right.

OK, I guess there's enough emphasis on the science part...still don't really like the event though...
