There was a question on my Regional test in Crave the Wave that asked, "What are the two types of surface waves created in an earthquake?"
The people sitting behind me- who were conferring very loudly- said something like, "Oh, surface waves, I remember those! The two types- those are P and S waves, right?"

sadly, the same thing happened in the dynamic event at states (for those that are curious, the answer is Love and Rayleigh waves)

She was like "Wow! That thing (zinc)really fizzes when you put this stuff on it!" What is HCL anyway? Do you know?"
Micayla, my partner, told her that it stood for Hyper-Charged-liquid, and she went ahead and wrote that down on her paper. Clueless!!!
And that's really funny

. Normally, I'd say that was kinda mean, but she really shouldn't have asked you questions.

At Regionals, there are always people who were given the event the day before and don't know what they're doing... in 7th grade, I did Towers, and when I went to impound there was one team with a two-foot to a side plywood cube as their tower. Several other teams came in with bridges...

On a Crave the Wave test it was a fill in the blank. It said some guy (don't remember) in (don't remember year) successfully detected and produced __________. We didn't no the answer, so we just put "waves". Later we found out it was X-rays.

once for a invitational some guy on our team didn't show up so my coach is like, okay u have to do rocks and minerals (honestly the only thing i can identify is probably quartz, and iron pyrite)
and my partner was just placed in it two weeks ago.
so during the test i was freaking out and was just flipping through a field guy and wrote down anything that looked like the rock and my partner didn't help at all. he was just standing around
amazingly we didn't even place last.

Sadly i thought it was right for a second.....
For the regional forensics test for the essay we had no idea what to do. The suspects were GG HH II and JJ. There were no descriptions of the suspects and it was obvious that II did it. (I know this is confusing but just bear with me). So we were like II did it, because he was jealous of the curves that GG and JJ had. So he and HH made a plot to frame GG and JJ. This went on for like 10 mins.

At NY States for Remote, there was a question that asked what caused a global cooling in temps between like 1940 and 1970, and I remembered reading about it but my mind went blank and there was only a minute to go so I wrote that it was the hippies trying to cut down on CO2 emissions. We still got 8th.

Hehe, i remember that question. My partner made up something about the oscillation of the earth's axis, but I really wanted to put that it was because of the Cold War. When we walked out, i heard a couple of other teams say that they actually did put the Cold War =)
