It did to me for one and a half years, until I finally figured it out (8 weeks before my last time competing in it)

It's not exactly easy if you don't figure it out for one and a half years.

I struggled with it, until a month before a the competition. There's a perfect saying in Chinese that literally means "open the can" but as an expression means that once you get it it'll be easy for you...

Writing is my thing now, and it's a non-rotating event (I think?) and always there are new things...

yep. It's "easy now..." But simple machines is almost always easy.
