Wanted Science Olympiad Events

sumobots sounds fun but those robots r expensive to build & they could easily get broken or messed up during this event

It is a fun event and quite expensive. The robots need to work on three different frequencies. There are quite a lot of rules for the event which helps with limiting the amount of damage to the robot. Though if people are using other electronic equipment, such as video cameras, cameras with auto-focus, cellphones, etc. can really screw up the bot. Fun event yet not good enough for a national event.

Baloon Race for C Div

That event was really bad no offense. It was fun and i liked it, but still really bad. there's a reason they took it out. People that did the event came up with a saying that the event was "20%skill, 80%luck" to show how unpredictible it could be.

I did it at my states (NY) in '07 (when I was in 7th grade) with an 8th grader (mind you my school is 7-9) It really wasn't a lot of skill at all. We had the skill, we could do all the math, but we decided to go a little lighter than we should have, and then we got 12th (mind you, not bad, but if we went with a higher weight we would have done better) It was a lot of fun, I wouldn't mind it back, but I don't think it may ever come back...

I took it as the same exact conditions as you (i was 7thgrd with 8th grader, same year) and i think i got 13. 1 place below you. I remember ours time was really low compared to what we practiced, which means we needed to use more weight.

science word!! i love that event...me and my partner were so good at it....we finish each others sentences now. the event moderator person at nats last year actually thought we were twins!!

No we should keep remote sensing, just change it back to something non-Earth related like the moon or even Mars again (Mars is my favorite event). Though they definitely need to write the rules a bit clearer for next year, this year it was pretty vague and you didn't know what to expect.

Well, if you live in NY they have a trial event called sumo-bots, the idea is to push the other bot out of the ring. So it pretty much is battlebots. Anyway I want math event, Sumo-bots to go to all states to replace robo-cross (its definitly going.) And some sort of logical event with thinking a puzzles and working things out.

We definitely don't want Sumobots to go to all states. Don't get me wrong, it's a fun event, but it has a lot of problems. It is only able to accurately determine the first place winner while all the other places have some sort of luck of the draw aspect to it. If only one team from each bracket goes to the finals and you get stuck in a bracket with the first place winner, you'll lose but you might have been able to get the second place medal however you got stuck in that position and thus end up getting like 25th. You would have to battle every team to get an accurate scoring method. So let's just keep it as a trial event as it should be.

Well here’s how it works,
At the beginning of the day all the robots go to face eachother. Then the winners go to a playoffs at the end of the day to decide who the champion will be, kind of like a tournament. And losing bots end up battleing eachother for higher postions so it is completly accurate. Not to mention it is the funnest thing you will every do.

Anyways I am luckly in road scholar, This is my first year and I already got a silver! (btw, the test was about spongebob )

Why can't we have both Remote Sensing and Road Scholar? They're not really that similar.
