For Division B, should we know about lethal alleles and pleiotropy?
Pleiotropy was on a tryouts test that I took, but I always had the feeling that it was a nationals-only topic.

Hey guys, me again.

I'm wondering if the regional tournament happened for some of you guys, and I only have one sample tournament to work with so I'm just wondering exactly how the station will be organized (mah 1st year in scioly if you didn't notice ). Also, I'm just wondering how any of y'all organized their cheat sheets because I'm having trouble organizing mine (I'm the only one participating ).




Also maybe answering the gene expression question, each gene that codes for a protein is expressed in the form of that protein, which is often expressed as a physical characteristic (skin tone, hair color, etc).

There will generally be anywhere from 5 - 15 stations. Each station will likely only give you a short period of time to answer some questions, write something, draw something, etc. Each station generally covers a different concept.

As far as organizing notes sheets goes, just bold and underline important points, then add text next to it. If you want to go small, size 7 font can work, with .1 margins. However, this is only if you really need to squish things onto the paper. Generally group concepts (as listed in the rules manual) together.

Yeah, I think you should. Both topics appeared on my Regionals test yesterday...

That's odd...
I went into the heredity event (March 2) and all that we had to do was sit in a desk and write your answers in a yellow packet while looking at the questions in a white packet. I got in third anyways (which is awesome because I was the only who entered without a teammate ) even though it wasn't organized in stations like Triple E.

The event can be run as timed stations or a packet test. I would actually expect the latter more often than not. It depends on the supervisor. This event is more likely to be a straight-up test because stations work better where there are objects/specimens or minilabs that need to be performed. This one doesn't have anything like that.

I've seen tests run as both, including a recent one at regionals that was primarily a test, but had three individual stations. Three teams would go up, each to a station, and they'd do a complete cycle through them, before returning to the desks to finish the test packet. It was a very interesting way of doing the event, and I found it to be fairly nice.

I only did Heredity once, years ago, but it was just a test when I did it, no stations or anything. Worked fine for me.


I just took a Genetics class in college last year, it was a lot harder than I thought it would be >.> The Mendelian stuff was easy, but I made stupid mistakes on the test, like messing up multiplying the probabilities.
