The rules are not extremely clear on this matter. It logically follows that, given an allowable range, anything outside of such an allowable range would be disallowed. It is most likely that you would be penalized in some way for leaving this range, but I'm not completely sure. You may want to submit a rules clarification to SOinc to find out exactly what will happen.

Again, you are allowed two octaves of range for each instrument. This is just under four octaves, total. You should be able to come up with a solid arrangement within this range. If it's good enough for the national champions, it's good enough for everyone else.

How should I hang my tubular glockenspiel? Its about 3 ft tall and weighs about 20 lbs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't know how to hang it!!
Are we provided with at least 2 tables so i can hang tubes or wooden bars between the 2 tables to hang it? Any other ideas???? Its heavy so a music stand won't do (or will it?)

You can't be sure there's going to be tables or chairs in the testing room (although most competitions are held in high schools or colleges, so it's very likely), so I would build a frame for it either out of some pretty solid wood or some pipe - like bell players have.

A music stand may or may not work: if it's one of those folding ones, heck, mine can't even hold a fat folder's worth of music without falling over, but if it's one of the heavy duty orchestra ones, it might be able to take 20 lb (especially if it's a little stuck). I still recommend building a frame, though.

what are people's experiences with music stands? Are they usually provided at your competitions or do you have to bring them?

I wouldn't count on provided music stands. More often than not, you'll probably be provided some, but not all the time, so it's best to be prepared.

You might want to note rule 5.i.iii "Plays all music in correct range". While there is a little ambiguity there, I'd think many event supervisors would not give you those 5 points if you played notes outside the allowable range. (Standard disclaimer about this not being the location for official clarifications, etc. etc.)

My first invite is this Saturday and I have studied how my instrument works and why, and how my partners instrument works and why and basic ways to change pitch, etc. What basic physics stuff should I study? Anythings fine because I learn fast and if worst comes to worst I'll memorize what I research.

Oh no. This is my school's first year (Though we placed 3rd in state last year for middle school) and we are going to a strictly division C invitational in Illinois. It is the Belvidere invitational.

Oh. Well to answer your question, we've experienced anything from simply "how does your instrument make different sounds" to specific stuff like explain how the ear detects different pitches, timbre, harmonics, etc.
