Yes, we did, but Collegiate got third. Maize South (? Maize schools always mess with my head) got first, but we would have won, had Wind Power not backfired and had we not cancelled three events - some of our best ones, too.

But if you meant regionals last year, Collegiate was announced as the winner, until someone realized they had one too many team members. First went to us after that, but I think most people still consider Collegiate the winners from last year.

Maize South? I don't think I've heard of them. Are they new?

I don't think so. Apparently, my head coach went to high school there, and she claims they used to be really good. I guess they are again?

(I hope I'm not getting Maize and Maize South confused again. Stupid flu.)

Edit - no, wait, it was just Maize, not Maize South. *facepalm* Sorry for the confusion.

Wichita Collegiate got beat by a vegetable?
Also, what do you mean by three cancelled events?

This could end up being an interesting state tourney, but didn't Kapaun get slaughtered at the St. James regional? Anything changed since then?

Ha, yes.

Three events - Experimental Design, Technical Problem Solving, and Microbe Mission - were cancelled at my regional. I'm not sure why the first two were cancelled, but MM was because there was no one to write a test for it.

Actually, we would have won first, but we stacked our teams and took sixth. My coach wanted us to get experience rather than win. Plus, we were missing three of our key seniors and a person who does all the events no one else wants to, so several inexperienced and apathetic people were put in their place.

We didn't do as well as we wanted at our own invitational because again, we were missing a lot of people. So yes, a lot of things have changed since then, considering we have almost everyone now. ;)

Now this will really be an interesting state... who do you guys consider the true contenders at state? the ones that could actually win, or take 2nd?

I agree that it'll certainly be interesting. I hope it is in a good way, though.

Hm... I think the true contenders are the ones who could do really well. Probably the ones who could take first and second, yes.

On a side note...

By any chance, is your friend one of the two St. James students who got up on the stage at the Kapaun Invitational and started singing? That was so awesome.

I didn't realize you were the one who posted that video (you were there, I assume?)! I commented on it a while back. If I could sing or play an instrument, I'd definitely get up and do that at state.

I don't have one yet. When we get our schedule next week or sometime after, I can probably guess how well my school will do. Considering there's still one more regional tomorrow, I'll wait to make any predictions.
