I've seen some references to electronic salinometers. Are those actually allowed by the rules?

It say "Teams must build, calibrate, bring and demonstrate a salinometer/hydrometer."

Does it count as building if you use an electronic one?

Yeah, though I've never seen one in any competitions because no one in my state has that kind of dedication

Can someone please tell me the difference between a midge and a midge fly bloodworm? I know that the midge larvae is called a bloodworm and I'm just trying to make sure that the midge and its larvae are in two separate classes based on the rules, since midges are listed under Class 3 and midge fly bloodworms are class 4.

Confused me too when I first started. As far as I can tell, there are two types of larvae for midge:
and this.

Blood midge larvae as you stated are class 4, and regular midges are 3. I'm still unsure about the entire classification of midges but oh well.

You should know what an estuary is, but not really any more information, since the topic is exclusively freshwater.

I have never been tested on an individual species yet, but if it does come up, I doubt they would ask about the minor species. In my notes I have the four major ones, but if you have enough space, it couldn't hurt to add the others

Hi guys. I was adding river information to my note sheet and I was wondering if we need to know the classification of rivers (The crenon, rhithron, and potamon.)

Yes, that would be good information to have. Personally I put it on my notesheet, and though it may not be a common topic on tests it still relates to the event.
