RCSA got 157 and Archimedean got 162. These are negligible differences.Killboe wrote:Okay, I just double checked the scioly national results and for some reason, I thought that the team numbers were their placements and I thought Archimedean got 21st. So yeah we won't get top 25 most likely. But, our team got 157 points and Archimedean got like 167.windu34 wrote:Florida teams traditionally do not do very well at nationals because despite a relatively high registration, Florida is not a very competitive state relatively.Killboe wrote:My team has dominated Florida this year. Additionally just to be frank, you guys certainly did not "Dominate" Florida in any way. Yes, you guys placed 1st at your regional and states this year, but 2nd place at States was only 5 points behind (essentially negligible difference). Additionally, Archimedean Middle traditionally places ~30-40th place so there is no reason to think that you guys will perform significantly better (especially since this is your first year at nationals and you guys have no idea just how competitive it is).
To get an idea of what "dominate" means, Troy won their state tournament this year beating second place by ~100 points and has done this for over 2 decades.

Just think of wydowns growth. There is probably no team that has made it to nationals in their 3rd year competing in science olympiad.

Then technically 100 teams in the US went to nats in their first year...?pb5754[] wrote:Well, since NJSO was formed in 1993 (according to the historical tournaments page)... 2002-2005 btw
Edit:
2002-2005 was probably a lot easier though lol
So we went from no team to 1st in the nation in 5 years lol.

The first nats tourney had 19(+3?) teams:
https://www.soinc.org/sites/default/fil ... esults.pdf
But then there were ALOT of duplicate states.
So at least 100.
Also, keep in mind that it could be something like this:
Year there were 50 teams:
NJ: 1, community MS, 2, montgomery.
Next year, 60 teams:
BOTH community and montgomery go to nats.
But it's not mont's first year.
So it counts as only 1.

Did anyone even consider that every single state wouldn't be participating in the first year?Matholy wrote:This is confusing lolpb5754[] wrote:Well, 120 yeah. Those 19 comprise all of the teams at Nationals that year, as do most historical Nationals results (besides the one that shows 10 teams, that's incomplete).
Re: Unofficial Rankings B
But then if lets say Wyoming's first state comeptition was in 2005, then the first school in Wyoming, "School X" would have went in their first year too. So theres still 50 states.
UNLESS lets say you live in Washington DC, and you went to Maryland to compete last year. This year they have a bid so that wouldn't count, even though it's a new state.

2020 and 2021: Astro, Chem Lab, Code, Fossils, Geo Maps, Sounds

Be nice to Idaho, y'all...we're trying our best to be competitive in a not competitive state. According to our performances this year, (our actual knowledge and not just medals) our team actually has a chance at ranking in a few events. We got 16th in Disease Detectives last year.antoine_ego wrote:I wasn't aware that it was now acceptable to trash other state's teams for no reason...JVallurup47 wrote:You're from Idaho, possibly one of the worst scioly states.Tailsfan101 wrote: My team made it in our second and third years...
