The hobby has grown a lot in the past decade, a lot of nerf mod retailers that sell mod parts, definitely worth checking out some of the more recent stuff. Lots of newer stuff from the past few years brought in from other hobbies like hydrodipping for paint jobs and HPA from airsoft.

I've heard of hydrodipping, but I don't know what "HPA from airsoft" means.
I'm surprised by how many teenage nerds who do scio are also into nerf guns. I don't know why, but I find that really funny.

Fax; I am barefoot as well, but I only wear socks if my feet start feeling cold.
In fact, it's good etiquette to take off your shoes before entering a house.
