mine had no vocab but it ask what are these legs used for, not the feet, the legs... we had no clue what it was saying, the rest was other essay questions and then 10 extremely easy ID/bird call mixed, yes only 10 and a minute each, way to easy... and we got 5th... and medals were top 4...

Really? I never saw that in the rules. Anyway, letting you write in the book kind of undoes that.

WOW! i'm freaking out... because I just bought a very nice bird book called : Birds of North America. it's a DK publication from the American Museum of Natural History.
but... it's really big. and the rules say, "teams may bring one published field guide"
so is this several-pound textbook okay to use? I'm not really sure. because i think that it's ok cause it doesn't say encyclopedia anywhere and the front says "the complete photographic GUIDE to every species"
so... i think i'm okay, what do you think?

I'm using the same book. Still waiting for the clarification. Since it says guide on it, I think it's legal. And my regional proctors were admiring it during the event. My tabs are VERY nice.

Okay. Just got back from States. Medaled in Ornith... though not that great.

It was a PowerPoint presentation, 72 questions, 50 minutes.

It was all birds from my state which confused me because there is no State list.

We were tested on calls, videos were put on the test, match the silhouette of the bird to the bird, questions on occurances, bird anatomy, etc. There was also a question on what plants would you plant in your backyard to attract birds and how will they attract the birds? (Birds will nest there, eat there, etc.)

It was all multiple choice except for some short answer responses (common name, scientific name, etc.)

It was decently okay...

oh no wtf a powerpoint presentation?!?! =//// ive been preparing thinking its gonna be stationsss ughhhh

A powerpoint is essentially stations. I am looking foward to one. I hope my state writer will do it..... because the nationals guy didn't have one for amphibians last year.

does anyone know where to get a really good picture of a bird's internal anatomy? i'm trying to find one on google images and they all pretty much suck.

depends on what kind of internal anatomy? the soinc.org training handout has a pretty good one for skeletal system
