The last post was two days ago, so for the sake of keeping the thread open, I looked up the tree, and it is in fact a tanoak. I'll just go ahead and post a tree--Western-style. 8-)

1. Furniture
2. Rocky cliffs or clay hillsides, Missouri to the Virginias
3. Northern Red Oak

1. Nyssa sylvatica 2. Nyssa refers to a Greek water nymph and sylvatica refers to its woodland habitat 3. Anthocyanin?
