In extreme cases, there may be compression of some of the internal organs, scoliosis occurs in the rapid growth period of the teens, more often in girls than in boys. Early identification and treatment produce good results. Three proven treatments for scoliosis-observation, bracing, and surgery. These depend on the severity of scoliosis and physical maturity of the child.

Re: Anatomy & Physiology B/C
Name and explain 4 physical changes that take place when a skeletal muscle contracts.
Following physical changes are observed during a muscle contraction:
1) Shortening of Muscle Fiber: During muscle contraction the sarcomeres shorten to about 60-70% of the rest length. This depends on the strength of the stimulus and the # of motor units involved.
2) Viscosity: Viscosity during muscle contraction and density of the sarcoplasm increases.
3) Tonicity: The partial contraction of a relaxed muscle is tonus. During muscle contraction, tonicity increases as more and more motor units come into the phase of contraction.
4) Heat production: The energy released by ATP during muscle contraction is partially converted to heat which helps in maintaining homeothermy.
5) Electrical changes: The sarcolemma is with a resting potential of 90mV. During contraction an action potential of +45 to +50mV is developed.

Thanks for that!! I didn't know what you were asking, so I didn't answer. Also, I was being lazy.
Are you going to ask another question?

Re: Anatomy & Physiology B/C
I think that is right, but there might be more types.
On the nationals test last year, we had to name the 5 type of psoriasis. The night before, my partner started memming the types so I was glad...
