I would not think so, seeing as how it specifically spells out in the rules how the points are meant to be scored. However, I have no idea.Gr wrote:A quick question out there. In a recent invitational in Ohio, the supervisors used a different rule for ice cream. They gave 10 points for whoever got the tallest tower, 9.5 for the second tallest and so forth. So whichever team got the shortest got 0 points. Is this even allowed?

Re: Food Science B
Nope, but this unfortunately happens all the time. As Chalker often points out, it's incredibly hard to make sure that every volunteer knows what they are doing. That's why, as competitors, we should help our proctors know what and what not to do.Kuttan wrote:I would not think so, seeing as how it specifically spells out in the rules how the points are meant to be scored. Re: Food Science B
I doubt anybody is going to give you their cheat sheets. Basically, make a slimmed-down binder. Whatever research you've done, condense that down. The rules contain a topic listing. Work from there.thomas_2002 wrote:hi

Re: Food Science B
For the butter, how do we get it out of the bottle? Are we allowed to cut it? If so, can we bring scissors to the event?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Food Science B
You cannot bring scissors, so try to find a bottle with a wide enough mouth.sciolyrulz wrote:For the butter, how do we get it out of the bottle? Are we allowed to cut it? If so, can we bring scissors to the event?

Correct.thomas_2002 wrote:does the impunded notebook just have to contain 9+ sheets of the butter, curd and ice cream?
It's probably a good idea to have nothing in the binder except for those 9+ sheets, just for no confusion or anything.
Also, if you have more than 9, remember to put your best 3 for each experiment in the front, because only the first 3 for each experiment will be graded.

I am so confused! I have never done food science before, and I was wondering if anyone could give me a quick run-through of what you have to do, how to do it, and what you will need for food science.
Re: Food Science B
For the cheese curds portion of the experiments, our milk isn`t curdling properly after the addition of the vinegar/lemon juice. This is probably due to the fact that the milk is kept at room temperature, but the instructions say that this is the temperature the milk should be at. Has anybody else encountered the same problem?
