Do you mean one solid styrofoam piece? or do you mean something like styrofoam cups stacked up. I feel like it would be quite costly and time consuming if you carved your own nose cone out of styrofoam, and I know from nationals last year, that styrofoam cups don't work really well. I still think that plastic film is the way to go, but I have seen some successful teams use laminated paper that was rolled into a cone.

Hello everyone,
I just completed states, and I just wanted you to know that the first place bottle rockets at NY states got 10 and 11 seconds. The PSI was 50.

Oh yeah, congratz at winning states! Goodluck at nationals. The back of our t-shirts say GeNiUS in periodic table element symbols, and it was funny because someone thought it said Gelinas xD

I can't speak for the others, but our team has used cardboard, plastic sheets, and even paper. My advice would be to try a wide variety of materials and see which one works for your particular design.

Yeah but that was at 60 PSI, and 50 really knocked a chunk off our scores.

Not to brag or anything, but my partner and I got 10 and 11 seconds on 45 psi at state, and our B team (which I made the rockets for) got 10 seconds and 13 seconds!

Also, has anybody done bottle rockets last year? If so, what were your best times?

Our team's best was around 28 seconds. At nationals I saw some teams getting in the minute range.
