Re: Ohio State Predictions
yeah. We do it for fun, and to try to do well, we start in November and meet twice a week. But our school is big on music, and most of us are in marching band and things like quiz team, etc. So we aren't as serious as, say, solon.
By the ways, is it true that solon takes a Science Olympiad class?

Re: Ohio State Predictions
Haha that would explain it. We have those too, but it doesn't always work...
Yeah, it's kinda sad. I've got a B in chem but I passed the AP entrance exam for next year. But I'm not gonna take it. I don't care what my teachers and counselors say; I don't think I can keep up with the class. So I'm taking honors anatomy. Woo. We have some AP chem and physics kids, and a guy that's taking AP bio next year, but that's all. If it works for solon, that's fine.

Re: Ohio State Predictions
While it is still fresh in everyone's mind, I'd be interested in how next years Forensic Invitational Tests could better prepare you for your Regional and State Test. (i.e. differences in test length, number of questions, depth and breadth of subject matter, complexity of scenario, amount of background info available, amount of instruction provided, etc.) If you prefer, you can PM your responses.

Re: Ohio State Predictions
I was in that elevator. And I'm sure no one got us stuck there on purpose. The problem was that the emergency person never told anyone we got stuck (for the hour and a half we were there) although we gave phone numbers of coaches and parents. Also, the supervisor for It's About Time refused to allow us to redo the mechanical which my partner couldn't do by himself. Not one of us blames anyone, besides whoever the emergency button connects to. He should have notified the coaches so my partner wouldn't start the event. As it was, the police and firetrucks came only after my mom called 911 to report a missing child when I completely missed my event. Am I upset? Of course. But this forum is the first time I heard the word "conspiracy" regarding the elevator.

Re: Ohio State Predictions
What can i say guys? The OSU Competition is probably the most competitive competition of all. The top Div. B teams (Solon, Chardon, Magsig) have all been state champs for the past three years, and they have all gone twice. I really feel for those guys at Solon HS who really probably took so much time to study and prep for this prestigious torunament, but couldn't show their true strengths because of a faulty elevator. Well, theres always next year.
As for their high expectations, you really can't blame them. They love Science Olympiad. Its their way of life. They probably stayed up until 2:00 AM some days just prepping for State so they can take a shot at the coveted Nationals Tournament. I mean, really?, wouldn't you have high expectations if you worked so hard, but you got so little, even though you feel you deserve it? Just think about it.
And easy tests at State, well, thats just something that will plague every good team. The power house teams really want to get to the advanced things, so they probably skim over the basics. Then they really buckle down to cram on the hard stuff. That way, if the test is really good, they will no doubt get first. This is just something that every team hates.
As for now, lets wish Solon and Chardon, as well as Centerville and Mentor good luck. May they represent Ohio well!
For us, let's just focus on next year . . .

Re: Ohio State Predictions
I got 1st in anatomy in Ohio. Earlier, they were talking about if the test was hard. It was fairly easy, but 200 questions had to be answered in 40 minutes. I got 185 of them done, but I studied for soooooooooooo long. I just instantly knew the answer.

Re: Ohio State Predictions
I truely believe that the reason Magsig did not make it to nationals because of Pentathlon. They got 33rd, and a lot of the good teams did poorly. Without Pentathlon, they would have gotten to go.

Re: Ohio State Predictions
Speaking to those sorta upset that solon was upset with 3rd.
Sometimes people join clubs, they enjoy friends, and they move on with life. To others, some activities are treasured beyond just a club. Science Olympiad, for the really good teams, is a way of life. It dominates peoples Facebook status's, it is their social life, it truly runs there lives. I understand why some teams, some people, wouldn't understand that, I do, because those people obviously didn't spend 4-5 years of their lives working soley towards the goal of winning nationals (note that the people in 7th grade who went to Solon placed 5,4,3, (didn't go), 2, (didn't go) during their div B and div C national tournaments). To those who didn't understand the dissapointment before, I don't expect you to understand it now. You haven't tasted victory, you haven't been at the top and then fallen all the way to "the bottom". And yes, Solon's bottom is apparently different from most people's, not because Solon is elitest and MUST win, but because the people on that team live to compete on Science Olympiad. So to those people who question Solon, to those who wonder why they are, or how they could be, upset, don't get angry at Solon, don't get frustrated at their mechanicals or think less of the people on the team. Either respect them for doing what they love and caring enough to cry about it, or pity them for only having Science Olympiad and thus not having anything else to cushion the fall from 2nd in the nation to not going. Again, I don't expect anybody who hates Solon (which isn't cool, I mean, to hate people over Science Olympiad? Use hate for more important things), or who can't understand their position to understand this, or to identify with them, but just realize that the top teams live for moments like the Science Olympiad State Tournament, and thus to lose with such high expectations is like jumping out of a plane thinking you have a parachute but realizing about halfway down that your parachute has a hole in it, and now all you can do is curl into a ball and hope that you survive for the next adventure.
P.S Never heard about any conspiracy theory, but after looking at results it is obvious of 2 things. 1 Solon had a bad day and 2 the elevator obviously did something, whether it was enough to ruin it for them or was just a small occurence will never be known.

Re: Ohio State Predictions
to add onto the previous comment...
its like understanding that Cleveland Cavaliers would not view anything but winning the NBA title this season, as task accomplished. pretend they lose to the lakers or even boston. an ordinary team, say...the charlotte bobcats, would have been happy by merely making into the playoffs. (they didnt). yet for the cavs, they knew that they had the potential to go farther and win. they knew that they had invested in the season more to succeed. they knew that anything short of their expectation (which is way higher than most team's) is disappointment
