Re: Meteorology B
The meteorology test at Mentor was really easy. I think it should have been much longer and harder. We were only tested on very basic stuff.

Re: Meteorology B
After looking at our test and answer key, I was very disappointed with the quality of the test at Mentor. There were multiple questions in which the answers were obviously not correct. Also, there were multiple questions that had two correct answers, but were marked wrong. Lastly, many of the questions were badly worded. People making tests for Science Olympiad should do a lot of research on the event, and the test writer for the Mentor meteorology test, obviously did not do much research at all. I expect each person making a test to put time and effort into it. It is quite disappointing that my knowledge wasn't tested to its full extent and I had prepared so much for the event and I was given a horrendous test.

Re: Meteorology B
Please keep in mind that SO is almost entirely volunteer driven, and Invitational tournaments such as Mentor even more so. There have been questions on other thread here about why some tournaments don't run all the events... one reason is because sometimes they can't find anyone to be an event supervisor. Finding a knowledgable and interested supervisor with enough time to put significant effort into a test is even more of a challenge. Thus, you might want to ask yourself whether you would have rathered NOT compete in the event at all, or just have a 'mediocre' event supervisor that at least gave you some experience in a tournament environment?meteorology125 wrote:After looking at our test and answer key, I was very disappointed with the quality of the test at Mentor. Re: Meteorology B
Northmont test looked like one from 2 yrs ago with weather and climate.Very comprehesive but had questions about Ice Age, tree-rings, medieval warming, el nino and Koppen classification. There was exactly zero questions on Severe Storms. Good news is I may have actual took this test before???? Did pretty well. Looking forward to more tests on storms.

Re: Meteorology B
Let's see: Rossby waves and Lee waves, condensation nuclei, adiabatic cooling and very little on actual severe storms. Again, it's like no one writing the tests stop to look at the parameters of the testable material as outlined. Also, extremely short which usually means not very desciminating.

Re: Meteorology B
The U.S. National Weather Service defines a gale as 34–47 knots or 39–54 miles/hourof sustained surface winds. On the Beaufort Wind Scale, a Gale is classified as: 7: Moderate Gale (32–38 miles per hour), 8: Fresh Gale (39-46 mph), 9: Strong Gale (47-54 mph) and 10: Storm/Whole Gale (55-63 mph). A Gale is a type of Wind Description preceded by 0: Calm, 1: Light Air, 2: Light Breeze, 3: Gentle Breeze, 4: Moderate Breeze, 5: Fresh Breeze, 6: Strong Breeze and succeeded by 11: Violent Storm and 12: Hurricane on a Beaufort Wind Scale. Gale is often a maritime reference.
In regards to water funnel, I would assume it is just another name for Water Spout which in general terms would describe a very weak tornado over water, but there are several versions and ways that it can develope, We actual had several develope this winter over Lake Erie that were associated with Lake Effect Snow. Hope that helps.

I know this is a bit lateemescferrall wrote:The rules say "Each student may bring one non-programmable calculator and one 8.5" x 11" two-sided page of notes containing information from any form in any source." Does that mean that my partner can bring a different set of notes than me? I really hope so, because if that's true, we can expand our notes SO much! Thx
