Just wondering about something I found earlier today; I read that MODIS has a repeat interval of 2 days, but if it's on Terra which has a repeat interval of 16 days, how does that work?

I should probably research more, but just looking at it point-blank, I think it may mean that MODIS has a IFOV? So that it can take a higher area per photo? Although the more I think about this suggestion, it seems less possible.

I am doing this event for states for my team, and I don't understand how we are supposed to compare the area of, mayhaps a glacier, in two different pictures. Is there some particular formula I am supposed to use or something?
I also would like to know where I can find all the information for the satellites and how they track stuff like greenhouse gas levels. If anyone can help me, thanks!

There's no forumla, what you need to do is just calculate the area of the glacier at Time X, then calculate the area of the glacier at Time Y. If the problem asks for a percentage or difference between areas, that's easy enough, just basic math skills.

Are you serious? It's not like I've done this event before.

To compute the area, they'll give you a scale and you can use that. If they just want to calculate percent change, then just use square centimeters or square millimeters and compare those.

I have pretty much all the info you're looking for about satellites. All you need to do is ask me.

Did anyone have this event at Nationals last year? If so, how was the test? How was it set up, did it follow the event rule sheet, etc.?

You can be assured that ALL events at Nationals follow the rules, particularly since in general the people that write the rules are the National Supervisors.

To reiterate what Chalker said, yes, the test follows the rules. I would have thrown a fit if it didn't.

The test was great, I thought (Disclaimer: I got 6th last year.). It was mostly imagery, with one or two sections of basic MC questions, but it covered everything about RS, and I appreciate a test like that. What threw me were the questions on sensors that I really did not study, but thankfully had some information on my note sheet. You should see if your coach has a CD containing the Nats test from last year if you really want to examine it yourself. It's also available on the Soinc Store here.

Was the imagery questions essentially identification? i.e. what does X part of this picture represent, what causes it, etc.?
My state's exam didn't follow the rules at all, so that's why I asked. xD

Has anyone see any digital image processing questions on the tests?
