Sibley actually has the hardiness zones map on the inside cover, and every hardiness number is given for every species.
Yeah, but flipping to them is a pain and a waste of time.

True, but I am guessing that there will not be many questions on hardiness, if there are any.

Got a papercut trying to flip through Sibley's. :/ I'm sticking to that one for now, trying to find how Audubon's works.

Anyone have a better way to memorizing names? Forestry is not sticking as well as ornithology did.

hm, the only few i know...sorry, only one i know is the ginkgo :) got a few samples from china, so i'll be alright
i haven't looked at this event much, still bummed how nats scheduling has this conflicting with reach for the stars, but...like the grand fir, is it bigger than most?

EDIT: also, i was going to try to connect families with certain types of leaf shapes....and audubon has a good leaf diagram and i believe it gives the leaf shape by the info....

The science olympiad tree list has "Maple" as a family which is actually replaced by the Soapberry family by recent studies because of their link with Buckeyes and Maple is their own genus now. Should this be reported or something...?

This year, the national list is based off the taxonomy of the Audubon guides. Generally, the list makers do not note recent changes in taxonomy, as last year's ornithology was based off AOU's 1998 Checklist.

So if a question asked what family this was from, we would say maple family not the soapberry family?

Since this has been the accepted norm since last year, I would say yes, however much I disagree with it.

Yeah, there's a couple of instances in the Sibley guide where families have different names or a couple have been grouped together but I'd say that you should really just go by the list for all questionable families.
