This is amazing. Do you mind sharing the mass of your parachute? With the materials I'm currently using, getting much over 1 sec/ft would require an absurdly large parachute, and 2 is not possible.sciolyperson1 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 19, 2020 7:55 am We got 37sec in 18 the other day.
49 sec in around 30-35 ft at Princeton.

Design plays a large aspect rather than material. We use the really thin plastic garbage bag material for our parachutes.ET2020 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 19, 2020 3:06 pmThis is amazing. Sorry, but how does that lower mass?HippoLowercase wrote: ↑Wed Feb 19, 2020 5:03 pm Are people tying the strings to the parachute to reduce the mass?

No adhesive = less mass.donutsandcupcakes wrote: ↑Thu Feb 20, 2020 12:21 pmSorry, but how does that lower mass?HippoLowercase wrote: ↑Wed Feb 19, 2020 5:03 pm Are people tying the strings to the parachute to reduce the mass?

I thought people tape their parachute before making a hole and tying the string....builderguy135 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 20, 2020 1:01 pmNo adhesive = less mass.donutsandcupcakes wrote: ↑Thu Feb 20, 2020 12:21 pmSorry, but how does that lower mass?HippoLowercase wrote: ↑Wed Feb 19, 2020 5:03 pm Are people tying the strings to the parachute to reduce the mass?

Does the tape reinforce the hole so it doesn't rip?donutsandcupcakes wrote: ↑Thu Feb 20, 2020 1:07 pmI thought people tape their parachute before making a hole and tying the string....

Re: Times and sec/ft
That's what I've heard, usually, people tape that area then make a hole using a hole puncher then they tie it, they say adding tape helps it not rip but isn't that the same wight as simply taping it? I find taping the strings easier but I wanted everyone's opinion if tying is better, plus wont there be more tangles then I'm sorry if I sound slowbuilderguy135 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 20, 2020 2:04 pmDoes the tape reinforce the hole so it doesn't rip?donutsandcupcakes wrote: ↑Thu Feb 20, 2020 1:07 pmI thought people tape their parachute before making a hole and tying the string....

Re: Times and sec/ft
Tangling should not ever be a problem unless you are mishandling your parachute. In addition, the difference between taping strings and making holes in the parachute is minimal. Both should be the same as long as you find a way to make it consistent.donutsandcupcakes wrote: ↑Thu Feb 20, 2020 2:17 pmThat's what I've heard, usually, people tape that area then make a hole using a hole puncher then they tie it, they say adding tape helps it not rip but isn't that the same wight as simply taping it? Re: Times and sec/ft
Makes sense, I've been trying to make my score better any advice? I'm planning on just making the parachute bigger...
