Re: Experimental Design
our teacher gave us a sample project it was " make a lab demonstrating one of newtons 3 laws" it was fairly easy but labeling graphs and organizing data is a major point giver if you do it right

Re: Experimental Design
I think it sounds really cool! My couch's suggestion is that you memorize the rubric so you know not to leave out anything. It's pretty cool. We did a pratice design and it was pretty fun. It's my second favorite event this year!

Re: Experimental Design
So I'm taking a Stats class this year and I realized it helps out a TON. Has anyone else had a similar experience???

Re: Experimental Design
lol my coach told me that too. However, I dont think its necessary because in the sheet that they give you they include it.seriouslysuza wrote:I think it sounds really cool! Re: Experimental Design
I do believe that they're supposed to give you a copy of the rules.

Re: Experimental Design
Hey, me and a couple of other people just signed up in our school for experimental design and we have almost no time to prepare. We have a team of pretty smart people and we're definitely capable, but I wanted to know from any of the experts on here how you would go about practicing. We know the rules in and out but we still want to get in some hardcore practice in the weeks to come, I hope someone can help with a way to practice this event. Anyone?

Re: Experimental Design
Try doing some practice experiments. Have a coach or a teammate grade you based on the rubric. A list of experiments can be found in the wiki.

Re: Experimental Design
I agree, just do an experiment once a week and you should be good, also keep it simple experiments with alot of factors are a no bueno, like at regionals a few years back we got a mini catapult, rubber balls, rubber bands, tape, and a meter stick. The obvious choice was a catapult but we decided to do a drop and bounce experiment, (If the color of the ball changes the structure of the balls, then the balls should bounce different heights). It was a good decision, everyone else in our block used the catapult, people were running everywhere for balls that got thrown to hard, catapults were slipping, it was not good. We ended up getting third which i think is decent, so in short practice, and keep it simple.
hope this helps

SO stressed!

Re: Experimental Design
Yeah, I definitely like that idea of thinking outside the box and doing a different experiment than would be expected, does anyone have a link to the experimental design wiki? I googled it but couldn't find anything. Also, any other advice is welcome still.
