Hey all,

My regionals is Saturday, so i'm beginning to prepare my 10 pages (5 double sided sheets) of information. This is not my primary event, nor is it my partner's primary event. We are just going in to try our best. I really have no clue what I should be putting on my sheets. We dont seem to have to know any definitions or formulas, so i was hoping for some advice. I will definitely be making a ruler on one corner, however. That's smart.

Try taking a practice test. The ones from last year should give you a fairly good idea of what you need to know, so you can add that stuff to your sheets. After you make your 10 pages, take the CyFalls test, or any others that get posted from this year. Add whatever you think you might want.

Some ideas:
define active vs. passive remote sensing
Electromagnetic spectrum information
Satellite information - they tend to ask about the same few satellites, so get to know all the sensing equipment on whatever you find in tests really well.

I've taken a couple practice tests. I got 50% of the one, which isn't bad, considering my sister got 50% at regionals and won (against Oak Ridge, national champs). Of course, the test was probably a lot easier. I was still unsure what to study afterwards. It's a broad subject! A lot of the test was image interpretation, which I haven't found a good resource to learn from. A couple here and there answer some of my questions, but not many. Any good places to really learn image interpretation?

Hm. I just looked stuff up online (lots of Wikipedia) as I needed to learn things. I also talked briefly with one of the Earth Science teachers at my school, and he helped a little bit. Ask around your school; I wouldn't be surprised if one of your teachers took a course in RS in college.

Oak Ridge is not a national champion in Remote Sensing...

1) I'm homeschooled! So yeah :p. But i've found a great little study done by NC SO, so that will be perfect. There's not too much on forests, but this has a lot on it.

2) I never said they were RS champions, i meant just overall champions. At least that's what i've been told by them.

I am in the same situation. I looked at the tests but i still can't what information i should be looking at. I really need help making my notes and knowing what to study. If someone could please direct or pm me on what i need to study, and where i can start making my notes. This was thrown at me at the last minute because our coaches want ever event filled for states.

PLEASE I NEED HELP, STATES IS IN 4 WEEKS!@!@#$@#!@#

Overall champions in Tennessee maybe, but definitely not nationals. Last year they only got 27th, which is relatively far from winning it all. If that's what they told you, that they are national champs, then they're likely lying.

@gsheni, I would suggest looking up everything on the rules to make sure you are familiar with them, since almost anything on there can be asked for on the test. I think that most of the test tends to be on satellites and principles and types of remote sensing, but it really depends on the supervisor. Also, check the Remote Sensing Wiki since it has links to several resources and tests.

Have they never been national champs from way way back? That's the impression I got from some of them. I know they're state champs, they beat us every year at State. I may have just heard them wrong. Either way, they're a strong competitor.

I don't believe they have. I looked on the Oak Ridge High School Wiki and the Tennessee Wiki, and neither place said that they won nationally. Also, i checked the table of past tournament winners and it doesn't look like they have won. But they definitely have won several state championships.

The links are either outdated or useless (i.e. apply to former ways the event was run, like... Mars?... I believe)

It helped me a ton. It's a lot about the concepts of remote sensing.

After that, if you have time, try this:

I personally haven't read it all, but it seems really useful. However, it's really dense and advanced.

You could also find textbooks, use wikipedia, etc.

I'll try to edit the wiki later with more relevant stuff.
