Thanks! The big paw adaption makes sense... I think snowshoe hares also have big feet. I'm going to check on that.gyourkoshaven wrote:The only one I know off the top of my head is that they have really big paws, to navigate their way through snow in the forests. (Stay tuned for more)
EDIT: Ok I was right about the hands (In fact some are bigger than the hands of a grown man)
Other Adaptations:
The ones that live in the taiga in the north have developed heavy, light colored fur for warmth and camoflauge.
To make up for their lack of agility and speed, they have developed excellent hearing and extra teeth, so that they can still hunt effectively.

Extra? Compared to what? Lynx usually have 28. Housecats and lions have 30.gyourkoshaven wrote:The only one I know off the top of my head is that they have really big paws, to navigate their way through snow in the forests. (Stay tuned for more)

Re: Ecology B/C
Apparently they've developed these teeth over an extended period of time. My book could be wrong though.

Re: Ecology B/C
I just googled "lynx adaptations" and found a list of them:gyourkoshaven wrote:Apparently they've developed these teeth over an extended period of time. My book could be wrong though.
- sharp claws for hunting (catching prey), fighting and climbing
- large feet are covered with thick hair in the winter
- fur between toes acts like a snowshoe, helps the lynx walk on deep snow
- fur on paws keeps feet warmer in winter
- extra thick coat for winter, sheds coat in spring
- two types of fur - outer coat of long guard hairs, inner coat for warmth
- large eyes and ears for excellent sight and hearing
- more young are born if food (snowshoe hare)is plentiful
- migrates if not enough to eat in its territory
It doesn't mention extra teeth, though.
(If you want to know where I got this from, here is the link: http://www.saskschools.ca/~gregory/animals/lynx.html)
Edit: What book are you using?

Ahhh, brought it back to the library. It had like biology or something in the title. (I also just looked at wikipedia, and it shares the information that I have...)

Re: Ecology B/C
So we have to know adaptations for common organisms in the biome? That's gonna take forever...gyourkoshaven wrote:The only one I know off the top of my head is that they have really big paws, to navigate their way through snow in the forests. (Stay tuned for more)

Yeah...4 months doesn't qualify as forever...?
