1. What are the dark ocean-like plains on the moon and how were they formed?

2. What is the main theory for the moon formation called and explain it.

3. What is the orange/reddish spot on top of Charon, what is it made up of, and how was it formed.

1. Lunar maria. Large meteors would hit the Moon and crack the thin, still-forming crust causing lava to flow out.
2.The giant impact theory (I am pretty sure it’s called). A mar sized body named Theia hit earth and the debris (I think that’s the word) of the impact formed moon.
3. North pole? Tholins. It is formed by stealing the escaping gases from pluto. (I don’t think a moon should steal! :?: ) :P

Correct except I would give partial credit for #3, it is called the Mordor Macula.

Ok.

1. Identify the objects in this photo:

[hide]Hint if you need one: there are 3 objects in this photo[/hide]

2. Was the discorvery of Eris surprising?
a) was surprising due to its "backwards" orbit around the Sun
b) was not surprising because the existence of a massive "Planet X" had been predicted nearly a century ago
c) was surprising, since we thought we knew about all large objects in the solar system
d) was not surprising, because other Kuiper belt objects approaching the size of Pluto had already been discovered

3. What caused Pluto to be demoted as a dwarf planet? And why?
